About

Welcome, curious wanderers, to the Barony of Darkwater! We are the Central Florida chapter of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), located within the Kingdom of Trimaris. What is the SCA? Glad you asked! 

The SCA is a global non-profit educational organization. We are dedicated to the research and recreation of the arts, sciences, combat, and culture pre-seventeenth century. Basically, we keep history alive not just through research and study but through hands-on crafts and live combat. 

The “known world” is divided into Kingdoms. From there, Kingdoms are divided into Baronies, Cantons, and Shires. Even if your Kingdom covers multiple states, chances are you also live within a Barony, Canton, or Shire that hosts meetings closer to home. The Barony of Darkwater specifically covers Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Lake County. If you don’t live in one of those counties you are always more than welcome to attend any meeting, fighter practice, or event hosted by Darkwater. Anything pre-seventeenth century covers a lot of ground for you to work with. Intrigued by Ancient Rome? We’ve got you covered. Want to learn more about the farming practices of Vikings? Stop on by. Dying to wear the puffy sleeves of Tudor England? Say no more. If it happened before 1600 we’ve got people who are studying it and would love to teach you!

Each week you’ll find fighter practices as well as arts and sciences meetings covering things like brewing, calligraphy, dance, sewing, basket weaving… you get the idea. The archers meet twice a month, and several guilds hold monthly meetings as well.
