A Hospitaller is an officer who acts as a kind of liason between the SCA and the modern world. They help introduce new participants into the SCA by not only introducing them to experienced members, but also by teaching them about SCA and Kingdom traditions, customs and rules and helping new participants fit in. Hospitallers teach both formal and informal classes for new participants and have a wealth of resources that they make available, such as websites, pamphlets, handouts and SCA publications.

One of the duties of the hospitaller office is to run demonstrations. A demonstration, or “Demo”, is an organized presentation of information on medieval topics, SCA activities or both to the public. A demo can be an educational effort designed to teach the public about the middle ages, a display of the SCA’s activities designed to recruit new membership, or both.
For those who are interested in assisting with upcoming demos, you must attend demo training either in a scheduled class or privately with the Baronial Hospitaller. Please also make sure to review the Trimarian demo policy.

Greetings from your demo deputy!
This November, 3, 4, 5, and 6 The Barony of Darkwater is participating in the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire in Leesburg, FL.
We will have a Ladies salon for all to do hand work, embroidery, weaving, spinning, beading…etc. Any musicians interested in accompanying us throughout the day are welcome. There will be a craft/trades educational pavilion. We are looking for people to display leather working, chain mail/armor making, scribal, casting…etc. Additionally we will have a fully functional kitchen. We will be cooking, making candles, salves, soap, dye stuff and period laundry. We will have a gaming and dining area too. Finally we will have a SCA Hospitaller table as well. We are looking for members of the populace to help in any of these areas or help out in tending the exhibits.
I need assistance setting up on Wednesday, November 3 and tearing down on Sunday night. You do NOT need to attend all of the days to help! Thursday, Nov 4 the fair is open from 12-5, the other days the faire is from 10-6. Free admission and parking to those who volunteer and sign up with me.

A Letter from your Baronial Hospitaller...
Here we are in June and Gathering of the clans was a big success we had over a dozen newcomers! At the beginning of June I will be headed to the hospital for surgery on my knee, at this time I have asked my deputy H.L. Kateryna ette Hagenes to stand in my stead. She is in communications with me almost everyday so I feel confident of asking her to do this for me. When I get up and walking around the middle of the month our plan is to start to re vamp our gold key/Hospitaller point. The team is also working toward many different ways to outreach to our existing community as well as newcomers. Should you wish to become more involved get a hold of me or one of the deputies and let us know! In the mean time enjoy your summer and I hope to see you all soon
